Dr. Dorothy Levine At age 12, I had to make my first big decision: Should I commit all my effort and energy to continue training as a professional ballet dancer, or leave that dream behind forever? I have never regretted the decision I made then, to become a pediatrician. I enjoy both the art and the science of medicine. I love helping children and their families, and have developed a strong interest in public health. In addition to practicing for over 25 years, I have authored several medical papers, published in Pediatrics, JAMA, and Connecticut Medicine. My research on pediatric vaccines has inspired several medical pieces which have appeared in the New York Times, on Connecticut's "Channel 12", and on NBC's "Today Show". Along with my husband, Alvin Rosenfeld, MD, I coauthored a question and answer column for several years in American Baby Magazine. I graduated from Union High School in NJ, received a B.A. from Princeton University, an MD from Albert Einstein School of Medicine, and completed a pediatric residency at Babies & Children's Hospital, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Since beginning in private practice in 1983, I am proud to have been included often in Westchester and New York Magazine's lists of Best Doctors in Fairfield County and have achieved "Top Doc" status by Castle Connelly each year since 2005. In recent years I have held leadership positions in several local medical organizations, including Board of Trustees, Fairfield County Medical Association, Board of Directors of The Stamford Hospital and Health System and past President of the Babies Hospital Alumni Association. Aside from playing the flute and needlepoint, I enjoy traveling and seeing new places. I learned to speak Spanish while living as an exchange student in Argentina many years ago, and practice it with patients whenever I can. Whether on safari in Africa, kayaking with whales near Vancouver Island, hiking with bears in the Katmai Peninsula of Alaska, or scuba diving in Indonesia, I am reminded how difficult it can be to acquire new skills, even as an adult. This realization helps me to appreciate how vulnerable our children may feel as they navigate through the many demands and expectations of childhood and adolescence in the 21st century. I reside in Stamford with my husband, a child psychiatrist/writer, along with the youngest of my three children and twin kittens. |
